Android handset hands-on shows Google Maps Street View

Remember that little mobile OS initiative from Google (NSDQ: GOOG) and the Open Handset Alliance (OHA)? Yea, well, we haven’t heard much from the Android-camp in a minute, so we’re glad to see that the Android platform is still going strong.
The BBC’s Darren Waters got a chance to sit down with Andy Rubin, Google’s director of mobile platforms, play with the latest Android OS stack – running on some 3G handset prototype that rocks a huge touchscreen and a trackball. What we see in the video is the Android OS getting jiggy with the Google Maps Street View feature – giving first-person, street-level views of Google Maps’ maps in all its smooth scrolling and zooming glory. It’s really impressive.
We can’t wait for Android to get slapped with that “final” spec and get pushed into consumer hands, but until then, here’s a little video for you to chew on.
That new Android SDK sure did some good…
