Samsung i550w

Samsung keeps adding cool Symbian S60 devices to its portfolio. Following the Samsung G810 smartphone launch which left many speechless — because of the 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom — they are now updating the i550 model. Basically, the new i500w smartphone has everything the previous model had — including the built-in GPS, HSDPA, 2.6″ QVGA screen, 3.5 mm audio jack, GM radio, Bluetooth 2.0 and microSD slot — and adds WiFi support on top of that. The end result is one of the best Symbian S60 smartphones to date, which goes head to head with such Nokia models like the N95 8GB and N82. S60 space is getting more interesting every day. We’ll see where this goes…

    Nice fone i was considering this over the a nokia offering but the n82 trumped it so back to nokia.

    But without a doubt this handset is sleek and very interedting… samsung just keeps improving. Nokia better watch out.

    Dusan,

    I have to disagree with the statement that this is a N82 / N95 killer. Samsung constantly chooses to cripple their phones by including only tri-band GSM and Single Band WCDMA. If they want to become the magnet for current N-series users then all they have to do is support the worldwide frequencies and stop being the Europe’s bitches by including WCDMA 2100 / GSM 900/1800/1900. For Americans GSM 1900 no longer cuts the cake and until Sammy decides to play fair with the rest of the world, they’re loosers in my book. I have a deep love for Nokia but I am not ashamed to say that Samsung’s build quality (especially sliders) is MUCH better than Nokia’s was (until N81, N96 came on board). To be a winner all it takes is 4 / 3 band support (Quad Gsm / Tri WCDMA.

    Yeah, there is a point here. I also don’t understand why they don’t include U.S. frequencies. But that doesn’t mean they won’t do it at some point in the future.

    On the other hand, if Samsung price the i550w properly (make it affordable), they may have a winner.

    Maciek took the words right out of my mouth. For example, the G810 could really give the N95 a run for its money, but it is only triband. Why would you make the D900 quad but there newer/better models tri!?

  • newtype2011

    there = their

    and I forgot to add: Samsung really needs to start releasing their high-end phones to the US through traditional retail channels. Nokia is breaking into this practice, and unless Sammy wants to stay #2 forever, they may want to give the NA market a chance -

    This phone is missing many useful features such as active stand by plug ins, also search for wifi option is not included for browsing.

    how can i use wifi samsung i550w pls tell me

  • smdelfin

    I disagree with sajid. It’s not missing many useful features. It’s actually packed with many useful features found only in high-end phones.
    Today, it can hold up to 16GB microSDHC.
    Can anyone please post an unlock code for its GPS software? I can use Google maps, but I’d like to try it’s built-in GPS software.
