BlackBerry still dominant among business users

ChangeWaveAs part of a February 11-15 corporate IT pending survey (in the U.S.?), ChangeWave asked respondents involved with IT spending decisions in their organizations who the manufacturer was of the smartphones their company currently provides.

Guess which company won? Yap, it’s the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) maker Research In Motion, which was favored by nearly three-in-four respondents (73%). Palm (NSDQ: PALM) took the second place with 18% of respondents citing the Treo maker as the smartphone manufacturer of choice.

In terms of customer satisfaction, even though it’s not primarily a business device, iPhone users reported the sky-high satisfaction ratings, with 59% of Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s business customers say their company is Very Satisfied with the iPhone. To be fair, Apple still has a relatively small share (5%) of the corporate smartphone market.

RIM Blackberry ranks second with a Very Satisfied rating of 47%, while Palm received the lowest corporate satisfaction rating, with only 10% of corporate users saying their company is Very Satisfied with the Palm Treo.

Looking ahead to the Q2 2008, RIM (77%) is the dominant leader in planned corporate buying of smartphones having jumped 3-pts since the previous survey in November. Apple (11%) is second, and is followed by Palm (8%), Motorola (NYSE: MOT) (7%) and Samsung (4%)…

  1. I guess the difference mainly lies in usability of services rather than technical aspects, which shows us what really matters in marketing especially for the mobile environments which are limited by nature.
