Use any size MP3 file as a ringtone on your Samsung BlackJack II

Samsung BlackJack II MP3 ringtone hackThere’s seems to be no end to the hacks and registry edits that are coming out for the Samsung BlackJack II. Sure, it’s a great smartphone, but there may be other WinMo handsets out there feeling a little left in the cold.

No matter. If you already have a Samsung BlackJack II in your pocket, then you’ll be glad to hear that you can use any MP3 file, of any size, as your ringtone. WMExperts has come up with an interesting workaround and registry edit that allows you to not only set any MP3 of your choosing as a ringtone, but it also gets rid of that annoying 300KB size-limit. Here’s how:

  • Save your MP3 to your Samsung BlackJack II’s memory (I like to put my files in “My Documents”).
  • Use your BJ2′s “My Stuff” file explorer (there is the standard Windows Mobile File Explorer and the “My Stuff” file explorer – use the latter) to navigate to your MP3 file.
  • Highlight your MP3, hit “Menu” and set that MP3 as your ringtone.
  • The “My Stuff” browser will ask you if you want to move the file to your “My Sounds” folder – do it. The file gets copied, not moved, to “My Sounds” so your original MP3 file is still chillin’ in the “My Documents” folder.
  • Now to edit the registry to nix that300KB file size limit:
    • Go into HKEY_Current User ? ControlPanel ? Sounds
    • Delete the key of FileSizeLimit

That’s it. You should now be able to set any MP3 as your ringtone. Find one that suits your fancy and load ‘er up!

ok so i downloaded mobile registry 1.1, went to HKEY_Current User then I went to ControlPanel then I wen to Sounds, where I saw File Size Limit, and I deleted it, but as it was deleting, it said value instead of key. So now, instead of having atleast 300KB to download music, I have 0. Somebody please help me.

Can someone please tell me how to access the hkey to edit my regedit??? Im soooo clueless…..fastdrivingirl at yahoo

    thanks

  • John

This is a poorly written article. Although the first part is clear, the writer leaves you hanging with the registry edit.
Find & download a mobile registry editor (I use Mobile Registry Editor; it’s free). After you install the editor on your PC, run it – make sure your phone is connected to your PC.
After the editor opens, maneuver to:
    HKEY_Current User/ControlPanel/Sounds
DO NOT delete the File Size Limit – change it to 999999999
Closeout and you’re in business :)

  • Abi

thanks John I think it worked !!!
