Charity Living Streets wraps London’s lampposts to protect pedestrians

Just as we’ve posted that 6 million people were hurt while texting and talking in UK last year, we found out London is in the midst of trialing padded lampposts to protect inattentive pedestrians.
A pilot scheme has been launched in Brick Lane after it was found to have the highest number of “walking and texting” injuries in the country. The charity Living Streets has teamed up with the directory enquiries service 118118 to test a scheme to wrap up the nation’s lampposts. If successful — a poll will be carried out to gauge the response of locals — the concept will be rolled out in Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.

Is this some kind of early Aprils fools joke?
My thought exactly. But no – it’s real.
