Cellphone as ear warmer

German truck driver gets out of citation with ear warming excuseIn which we discuss how to get yourself out of a traffic citation for driving while using a mobile phone.

In many parts of the world, it’s now illegal to drive with a cellphone pasted to the side of your face - it’s distracting for the driver and just isn’t a good look. Even drivers in California will soon face a new law that will require the use of hands-free headsets while behind the wheel (and minors will be banned from using their cellphone altogether on the road).

German truck driver Walter Klein offers the rest of us multi-taskers a novel way to argue yourself out of a “driving while on a mobile phone” citation. Klein was spotted on the road by Die Polizei with a cellphone on his ear, and was accordingly cited. So, Klein argues that he was using his hot-from-the-charger handset to warm his aching ear - German Winters/Springs being as cold as they are.

Even better, a court in Hamm, Germany believed the story - on account of Klein providing an itemized telephone bill proving that he was not using the cellphone at the time he was cited.

Way to go, er, I mean - don’t use mobile phones while driving, kids.
