One in three mobiles to be smartphones by 2013

As handset manufactures push smartphone features into their lower-range offerings, more and more people are likely to pick up a smartphone in the coming years. New research fromABI Research says one third of all mobile phone will be smartphones in 2013 ABI Research indicates that 31% of all mobile phones in 2013 will be a smartphone. Currently, one in ten cellphones are smartphones.

"Smart operating systems are continually being optimized to run on processors with lower performance. There is a strategic move to support smart OSes in single chip midrange devices in order to unlock more data revenues," said ABI Research vice president Stuart Carlaw.

So, what's in your pocket right now? Smartphone or not-so-smart phone?

Chances are, you'll have a smartphone in your pocket in the next 4-5 years.
