Palm Treo 800wDelays are the name of the game when it comes to the wireless industry. Unfortunately, Palm is in no position to delay yet another smartphone. Even with the fantastic sales of the Palm Centro, Palm CEO Ed Colligan announced today that Palm’s latest financial net loss amounts  to $31.5 million.  But, the worst news will hit Windows Mobile-powered Treo-fans the hardest. Colligan said that “new Windows Mobile Treos” are “not coming out this quarter,” adding that new Windows Mobile Treo smartphones would be released “before the end of summer.”

Now, Colligan never directly mentioned the upcoming and highly anticipated Palm Treo 800w, but the “new Windows Mobile Treos” are little more than a thinly veiled reference to the Treo 800w. And, to help ease the pain of an even longer wait, Colligan assured us that the new Treo (Treo 800w) “will be the most competitive enterprise solution in the marketplace.” Take that, Apple!

Palm’s strength has always been the enterprise market, so the new Treo’s corporate competency isn’t in doubt. But, we’ll have to wait and see if the Treo 800w can save Palm, or if it’s just too little, too late. I, for one, hope it saves Palm.
