Samsung teases with Anycall Haptic phone video; Cry if you’re not in Korea

By Dusan Belic on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 at 10:32 AM PST In Devices, Samsung, Technologies

new Samsung device

What we have here is Samsung’s short teaser video made only for one purpose – to annoy us. Well guys you succeeded, you’re showing us a cool device which we still can’t have. That’s at least those of us not living in South Korea.

Apparently, the device filmed on a video bellow wears the SCH-W420/W4200 mark and apart from the huge, haptic feedback enabled 3.2 inch touchscreen, also sports a lively UI which support widgets on the homepage (looks like it’s TouchWiz), and a terrestrial broadcast TV receiver. We’re not sure whether the web browsing experience can match the one we have on the iPhone, but something tells us Sammy knows that he’s doing.

C’mon folks release the damn thing outside of your domestic market, we can’t wait for CTIA or any other event… And the video follows after the break. Enjoy!

If you’re living outside Korea/Japan you’re probably gonna have to get the phone unlocked first (if you’re using a SIM).

Well either way I think if you buy it unlocked the phone will have everything in hangul [basically korean]. However I think the phone came out in english for the Hong Kong market, though I’m not quite sure. The price ranges from 600-800 USD after the conversion though.

  10. UNEE says:

IN AMERICA .HOW TO BUY IT??ANYCALL HAPTIC PHONE ,PLEASE

  11. david kim says:

you can’t buy it in america. first the software is in korean which koreans prefer. second you won’t be able to take advantage of 80% of these features.. ie: internet connectivity, mobile tv/cable network, and HSDPA. you take out all those elements and your stripped down to the most bare functions, which isn’t worth paying upwards of $800 for a high end phone not made for the US market. something to think about.

  12. Ariana says:

so, does anyone know if the haptic is coming to canada anytime soon with all the functions ?

  13. kristin says:

    yeah, i’m gonna cry!!!

  14. Jason says:

If you buy the phone in Korea all the settings can be changed to English. you don’t have to worry about going though Korean menus.

  15. Joyce says:

    Boa tarde,

Me ajudem, por favor, ganhei esse anycall, moro no brasil e não consigo colocar a tv p funcionar, alguém sabe como posso???

    Desde já, agradeço.

    OKay people look.

South Korea does not use GSM networks like us USA. They use CDMA 2100Mhz. Even if you bought this phone in Korea with the intention of using it in another country it wont work. The only two countries in the world that use CDMA exclusively is Japan and Korea.
They dont even have GSM networks. Same if you take your Nokia to Korea or Japan it wont work, if it does not have CDMA capability. I know this from experience.
There are some phones in the USA that do have CMDA capability. you can go to the AT$T Mobile website and they list the phones they sell with CDMA so U can use them in Japan or Korea. The Blackberry Bold is one of them. I think also the T-Mobile G1 Google Android phone is capable of CDMA. But yes, sadly even most cell phone providers in Korea dont require the use of SIM cards so most of their model phones sold their dont even have SIM card slots, some do but most dont. In Korea you can go to a cell phone store and buy the most expensive phone they sell and have it pre-paid, unlike in the USA where only certain models can be prepaid. But they activate phones through the IMEI number not a SIM Chip. Like Sprint in the USA.

Okay. I forgot to mention some other things. This is a very nice phone. But I think the closest thing we are going to get to it is the Samsung Omnia i900. Which is very similar to this. This is meant for use in USA and European countries and can be bought unlocked. What I said before about Korea and Japan using CDMA exclusively is true but obviously most phones sold their have GSM capability so when Koreans and Japanese travel to other countries they can use the GSM networks. But Korea and Japan use only CDMA 2100Mhz 3G. The mobile phone system in Korea is far superior to any other on Earth. Thats right, the whole system is 3G. Digital. There is no analog signal in Korea. Here is a fact for you about why this is: There are 48.5 million people living in Korea. 46.5 million have cell phones. That’s 98% of the population!! No other country comes close to 98% of the population having cell phones. Korea uses cell phones for everything. They even replace credit cards and library cards. In taxi’s and 7-11 Stores in Korea, when you need to pay, you just wave your cell phone over a sensor and it charges it to your bank or credit card account automatically. Also, ATM machines have this capability, so U dont need pull out your ATM card, U just pull out your cell phone wave it front of the ATM machine, input your PIN number and money comes out. We probably wont see this in the USA for 10 more years! Korea has been doing this since at least 2002. Some models can receive over the air TV channels in near Hi-Def quality while sitting on the subway underground! If you go to Seoul, Korea you will be AMAZED! I was and still am. Thats why I LOVE going there ;)

I wish there was a way to edit your comments that were already posted so I dont have to keep replying to my own comments. ha ha. I think I meant to say HSDPA instead of CDMA when referring to the 3G networks.
