Samsung’s Spex has a cool name, nothing else; Coming to MetroPCS store near you

By Dusan Belic on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 at 8:52 AM PST In Devices, MetroPCS, Samsung

Samsung SpexMetroPCS (NYSE: PCS) is about to add yet another free or ultra-low-cost phone to its portfolio. There’s nothing special about the Samsung SCH-r210 or the so called Spex, expect the name which sounded promising. And then I’ve read the specs… The dual-band CDMA plus 1700 MHz AWS and 128×128 screen sound so prehistoric and the “Spex” name doesn’t suggest it’s your grandma MetroPCS is targeting. So whom they see as a potential buyer of this handset. Beat me. Maybe first-time phone buyers who only need texting and calling? The same group that doesn’t read the “specs” so they want “Spex.” Forget it, it was a bad joke and it’s a slow news day as I’m sure you can tell.

Anyway, we don’t know when it will be released nor how much the “Spex” will cost, but sure enough, we’ll know more in the near future. Then, if the news cycle remains in the same gear, we may post about it… or not.

My SPEX will not power off; it just keeps starting back up again. The only true way to turn it off is to remove the battery. Is there a setting for this?

my Spex keep cutting off and on. can someone help

  6. Ivan says:

I found this to be a great phone for someone in a tough financial situation. I went from my Blackberry Pearl with T-Mobile to this phone for $50 after I lost my job. It’s obviously not the latest and greatest but it does everything a phone needs to.
