d11 Dial2Do gets things done with just your voice!

Dial2Do is a free phone service that lets you get things done just by phoning a number and saying what you want done. You can call Dial2Do and say “email” to send an email, “text” to send a text message, “note” to…well you get the idea! It is being introduced to the US market at CTIA in Las Vegas.

Dial2Do is adding services all the time. Now you can do the following critical tasks hands-free via voice:

  • Write Notes – Dial2Do will ask you what you want to be reminded about/ note, and then send you an email with the details
  • Compose and Send Emails — Dial2Do allows you to “speak” your emails and pick the recipient. Then Dial2Do sends them email with what you said, and a link to the audio so they can hear
  • Compose and Send Text Messages — as above, but via SMS
  • Twitter — Dial2Do allows you to speak updates to your Twitter feed
  • Jaiku — Dial2Do allows you to speak updates to your Jaiku feed
  • Jajah — Say ‘Jajah’ and the name of the person/group, then hang up and Dial2Do will connect your call

For services that require transcription (email, text), Dial2Do uses a combination of both automation and human assistance. The service “learns” from corrections made by human agents, so the more the user uses the service, the better the automation gets.

So it sounds like a fairly handy service if you are in to (a) making calls and (b) not writing stuff down – but what say you, IntoMobile readership – would you actually use it?

iPhoneNotes lets Mac users manage notes on their iPhone

iPhone notes editing

iPhoneNotes is a Mac app made to allow iPhone owners edit Notes on their beloved handset. This isn’t the first application that can do that. MegaPhone, which was earlier known as iPhoneDrive, can also do the job, but unlike iPhoneNotes doesn’t come as a free download. To be fair, MegaPhone does much more than allowing you to manage iPhone Notes.

Anyway, the application is currently in the version 0.3 and is available for download as Universal Binary from here. You’ll need to have your iPhone jailbroken and few apps — BSD Subsystem and Open SSH — installed prior to accessing your notes.

Now, if someone would make a Windows XP/Vista app that can do the same thing, I know some people who would appreciate that, myself included. Who can wait for the new firmware?

LG Venus hitting Canada via Telus

Thanks to the eagle eyed folks of MobileInCanada, we’ve spotted that the LG Venus — which is already available in the U.S. via Verizon (NYSE: VZ) — is ready to hit the Canadian mobile phone market. Telus (NYSE: TU) is LG’s carrier of choice and starting from mid-April, Canadians will be able to grab one of the coolest looking phones in black. The pink version is also scheduled to be released, but interested buyers will have to wait a bit more in order to get it. According to Telus’ release — which goes after the jump — the the pink Venus will be available later in the spring. Pricing is not unveiled, but we don’t expect it to be through the roof. Like the 3-year plan is not binding enough… And now the mentioned release.

Nokia E52 looks like a work of a Photoshop master

By Dusan Belic on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at 6:05 AM PST
In Devices, Nokia

Nokia E52

What we have here is apparently a not-that-real Nokia (NYSE: NOK) E52 smartphone. As you can see from the image above, the device adds a “slider touch” to the existing E50 model. The end result is a weird phone, to say the least. Not that I don’t see someone buying it — especially if it adds WiFi, more RAM and the latest Feature Pack on top of what the original E50 got. Too bad this is most likely a work of the Photoshop master, rather than a real device. Still kudos to that guy/girl. You can clearly see he/she invested lots of time to make the phone look real.

Nokia Siemens Networks boosts EDGE data speed to 592 kbps

By Dusan Belic on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at 5:51 AM PST
In General

Nokia Siemens NetworksNokia Siemens Networks has announced the Dual Carrier EDGE software solution that could enabled existing EDGE networks to boost wireless data speeds to 592Kbps. But that’s not all. As part of he so called EDGE Evolution, the Finish-German giant also said they’re working on EGPRS 2, which promises to further increase EDGE uplink and downlink speeds to 472Kbps and 1.2Mbps, respectively.

As for the dates, the Dual Carrier EDGE will be available for the carriers interested in Q3 2008, while no date is set for the EGPRS 2.

Now, as far as I understand, existing EDGE-enabled phones should be able to take advantage of the updated networks. This could translate in much faster browsing experience through iPhone. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) pushing its carrier partners along this route… Full release follows after the jump.

Sling Player coming to Symbian UIQ phone near you

Sling Player coming to Symbian UIQ

I’m not sure why this haven’t happened before. After all, SlingMedia had its client for Symbian S60 for some time, and porting the app to the UIQ platform afterwards shouldn’t be that hard. UIQ Technology provides decent documentation for S60 developers who also want to develop for UIQ.

Anyway, SlingMedia finally got their things together and they’ll be rolling out SlingPlayer for UIQ this summer. Initially, the client will support Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s P1, P990i, W960i, W950i and M600i, as well as Motorola (NYSE: MOT)’s MOTORIZR Z8. Then later, I guess it’s fair to say MOTO Z10 and Sony Ericsson’s recently announced G700 and G900 will also get in the mix. Stay tuned…

iPhone SDK beta 2 now available

By Dusan Belic on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at 4:56 AM PST
In Apple, Developer, iPhone

iPhone SDKI’m not sure whether to classify this as a good or a bad news for iPhone developers. On one end, the SDK beta 2 adds new functionalities and developers should be able do much more. For instance the new beta of Xcode 3.1 now includes iPhone-ready Interface Builder. Then again, weekend is coming and this may kill your chill out plans, if you had any.

Unfortunately, we still don’t have the firmware version 2.0 running on our iPhones, so I guess taking a time off won’t hurt anyone. If that wasn’t true, we would urge you to dump the weekend plans for the benefit of the man kind, have no doubt about it. ;)
