Splashpower goes bankrupt, wireless device charging lives on

By Will Park on Saturday, April 5th, 2008 at 7:47 PM PST In Announcements, Financial/Corporate News

Slashpower goes bankrupt files for chapter 11Imagine a day when all portable gadgets can get their recharge-on without the need for cumbersome wires and cables. That day is almost upon us. Unfortunately, that day will never come for Splashpower. The company that has been working on their wireless device charging technology since 2004 has filed for bankruptcy. Apparently, they weren’t able to turn a dime on wishful thinking alone.

Without any commercial proof of solid progress in their wireless charging endeavor, Splashpower has decided to fold their cards. There still are other players in the wireless charging market, but we may not be using any Splashpower-sourced wireless charging base stations in the near future.

Great proof checking… try Splashpower not Slashpower! I can only assume you cut & pasted this from somewhere else and didn’t bother to check your piece at all – how else could you explain such a goof? Call yourself a journalist? :(

As for the demise of Splashpower – what a shame, I long for the day when I can get away from half a dozen different bl**dy chargers for all the devices I use, and being able to place them on a pad instead of having to tether them via a cable would be icing on the cake. Hopefully one day someone will bring a device to market and get all the device manufacturers on board.

Mmmmm, great shame but I have to point out they are not bankrupt, they are in administration meaning that they are still trading whilst trying to sell off the IP, customer base and the assets. They have 2 very real customers, both mentioned in the press release section of the web site, along with many blogs mentioning the recent deals. One of the customers was a handset manufacturer who was planning to integrate the technology – me thinks it would be a great acquisition.
