AP announces mobile news network for iphoneThe iPhone is a globally iconic device. It set the stage for a new wave of media-centric handsets driven by the user-interface and web-browsing capabilities. And as such, the Associated Press has embraced the iPhone as the premier online news delivery platform. The AP's "Mobile News Network" will offer news on"local content from brands they trust. Members can participate by providing local news that will appear alongside their logos." iPhone users will see their national and local news delivered on web pages formatted specifically for the iPhone.

"AP is working with mobile phone manufacturers and carriers to develop the best user interface for this comprehensive collection of news stories, photos and video from the news industry. The network will be optimized for the richest multimedia experience the new wireless devices will allow. For AP television and radio members, work continues on the technical plan for video and audio participation in the Digital Cooperative program."

The AP will launch their Mobile News Network this summer. Mobile News Network will be free and ad-supported. The advertising revenue will be split 50/50 between the AP and the publishing newspaper, giving struggling newspapers another revenue stream to help boost their bottom line.
