Juniper: Mobile TV to power Mobile Ads growth in next few years

According to Juniper Research, Mobile streamed video and broadcast TV will forge ahead to become the most lucrative channels for Mobile advertising by 2010. Apparently total Ad-spend on Mobile will exceed $1bn in 2008, and nearly $7.6bn by 2013!
Whilst SMS is the current cash-cow for Mob Ad, Juniper belives that Mobile TV and “Idle-screen” (by this I presume they means Ads delivered to the homescreen of a device) Ads will become dominant forces in the medium term.
According to report author Dr Windsor Holden, “it offers … personalized advertising with very high response rates, delivered to a device which is always in close proximity to the individual – will make it an increasingly attractive proposition for leading brands.”
If you have a thing for stats, check these out:
- Nearly 1.5 billion mobile users will receive SMS advertising in 2008
- China and the Far East will remain the largest regional market for mobile adspend throughout the period covered by the report, with revenues rising from $414 million in 2008 to more than $2.1 billion by 2012
Comment: So, some big numbers, and high projections – we all know that advertising works well on TV – but what we’ve yet to see with Mobile is whether TV per se will take off – I am sure it will, just perhaps not as people are expecting it to….
