iPhone on Vodafone India by September?

At least that’s what folks supposedly in-the-know are saying. While the US the Europe are waiting eagerly for the 3G iPhone to make its global debut, Indians on Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) could have an iPhone 8GB to look forward to later this year. More specifically, the 8GB iPhone is purportedly slated to drop on Vodafone India in September, with the iPhone 16GB launch scheduled for 2009, “based on buyer response.”
But, legitimate iPhone hopefuls in India (there are plenty of unlocked iPhones apparently running in India) will have to muster a heft Rs 28,000 entry fee. That would put the Indian iPhone at a $700 USD price point! And that’s not even for the 3G iPhone.
An iPhone launch on Vodafone India is a lock for this year (according to rumors), it’s just a matter of when the launch will happen.

The poor Indian consumer will be taken for a ride since APPLE will be selling the 2.5G version of iPhone at double the US retail price.
Is APPLE trying to dump unsold inventory on India and make a profit out of it?
No one is sacred, not even Ghandi from corporate logos claiming to have an affinity with the subject. Just sad.
I wonder what it’s going to be called…in the US it’s Jesus Phone. So in India is it going to be Ghandi Phone?
Also to Naveen…My guess is this phone will be heavily advertised in Delhi, Mumbai and other huge cosmopolitan areas…ones that are like “Indian versions of London, UK”…very advanced, well developed with high salaries in the call center sector so I guess people won’t put up with some shit like double the US retail pricing.
Rumors with no evidence. Vodafone will offer the iPhone 3G in India and earlier than September. Read some newspapers for a change.
