Motorola Q1 2008: 27.4 million devices sold, $15.25 lost on each device

Motorola’s financial figures for Q1 2008 are out and they are not pretty. While the handset division made $3.3 billion in sales, it operated at a loss of $418 million which would mean Motorola (NYSE: MOT) lost $15.25 on every handset the sold. We’re all waiting for the spin off to happen, more importantly I hope someone buys them and picks up all that talent while firing all the top brass who have managed to sink the titanic.

In the conference call CEO Craig Brown said “We introduced six new products in Q1 … we expect more products in Q2.” Hope that does something, anything, for your bottom line.
