Nokia N78 vs N82

Few days ago we posted a series of photos that compare two of the high-end Nokia NSeries devices N95 8GB and N96. We’re still in the high-end spectrum, though not that high as the mentioned two devices. It’s the N78 and N82 time and we have a new series of photos that show and compare the two devices.

There’s no doubt the N82 is a better camera phone — it has a 5 megapixel camera while the N82 has “only” 3.2 megapixels — but that FM transmitter built inside the N78 does sound tempting. Both devices, though, have somewhat awkward keypads. What do you think and which one you prefer?

      I want that black N82!!!

    • n95 user says:

      apparently, most people would prefer the xenon flash equipped n82. comparing the facts and interface, n82 is more likely to be more friendly.. =)

    • Mr-X says:

      The N78 is such a clean and beautiful phone.

      I’m not liking this whole USB and charging port on the side thing that Nokia have got going on.

    • Topy says:

      Hehe i was really neutral towards N78 when it came out and looks wise wasent really a fan, but actually now i think it’s one of the best looking Nokia’s ever made.
      Thought even with the fp2 and clean looks i cant make the switch from N82(5mpx).

    • Valmore says:

      I go for the N82, better camera and Xenon flash.

      Regards

    • Raidium says:

      Got to go for the N82! Xenon flash and a 5 megapixel? Hands down no contest. But Im not really a fan of Nokia. I’m more of an HTC fan but if I were to get a Nokia phone, it would be the N82.

    • LAguy says:

      N78 is my choice….honestly, 3.2 megapixel comes out just fine when you print 3×5 photos. Im from California, where you spend half of your life in the car, and the FM transmitter will come in real handy when im driving on the 405 freeway. Also the N78 S60 3rd edition feature pack 2 is a must have, that puts it over the top.

    • Ben says:

      according to the 163 chinese website, it says that even though N78 has only 3.2mp, but it has better picture quality. N78’s S60 3rd ed w/ FP2 also runs faster than N82, even though N82 has more memory.

      You can see the sample pictures at the bottom of this page:
      http://tech.163.com/mobile/08/0421/22/4A3AV0O7001117A5_7.html

      I’m gonna wait till E71 comes out and then decide :)

    • Topy says:

      N78 and E66 i believe should be pretty close each other. If E66 will have fp2 and the normal E series build quality it would hard fight between those 2.
      Great to hear that fp2 is actually running faster!

      Really bummed that it seems to take so long with E71 and E66….not to even talk about if it really is going to take so long to announce it as some are saying currently =(

    • Bart says:

      N82 is simply the most powerful phone out there. N78 looks like a half finished design. The number keypad looks very disturbing.

    • Jay3GSM says:

      The N78 keypad isn’t as bad as it looks, it is really usable. Both handsets have their plus points but overall I like the the black N82.

    • gracy singh says:

      see the N78 phone review http://nseries-phones.blogspot.com

    • Zak says:

      I’d go for the Black N82 seeing as how I own one hehe

    • Joe says:

      I want the both..;)

    • Jenny says:

      wouldn’t it hurt to use the buttons for N78 ?

    • Jenny says:

      wouldn’t it hurt to use the buttons for N78 ?
      I like N78 better but if it had a different and an easier key pad to use

    • Finbar says:

      I have a 7.2 digital camera with Carl Zeiss lens so I don’t need a camera phone. SO i’ll get the N78, but can someone tell me if the key board is good or nt?

    • Szaszati says:

    • Prosenjitz says:

      Feature-wise: a great phone, almost a complete one, in todays standard.
      But useablity-wise: a great loss of a great phone!
      And, Someone knowledgable please comment on the usability of comparatively smaller keypad of Nokia E71!

    • KingWicked says:

      I have a silver n82,Had an n95 8gb two months ago solid it just for the reason that the camera photos started to get dull and not clear the biggest reason of which was no lens cover.Having a 5mpx camera which cant take good photos is useless.

      Went for smaller screen.silver colour n82 but it has proved much better except the smaller screen size but xenon flash,and lens protector are those plus points which neither n78 nor the coming n96 have.Buyin an expensive camera phone without a lens cover is mere stupidity unless like me you are crazy about nokia symbian phones have been a folower since the Nokia 7650 started the game.

      so its all your choice n78,n96,n95,or n82 it depends what you want.No match uptil now now with n82 if you want a camera phone.

    • Harry says:

      Can u plz tel me which cel i should buy, m confused b/w N82 and N78, both hav same features, same kind of drawbacks, can anyone tell me about the better one having good sound quality…..plz m in hurry to buy one of them !

    • Zak says:

      @ Harry

      Man = N82
      Woman = N78

    • Harry says:

      ~~~Zak~~~
      hav u used both the phone? can u plz tel me that which one hav better sound….? Evn m thnkn of buyn N82, i hope my choice is ryt, bcz i already hav bought N95 nd m not happy with that one. Plz tel me abt better sound and camera from N82 nd N78
    • Zak says:
      Well I own the N82 but I can’t comment on the N78 just yet.
      I’ve ordered it for my gf and should receive it tomo.
      The sound is fine on the N82 although it doesn’t go as loud as I’d like. (my ipod touch can play my music alot louder)
      But if you’re planning on using either the N82 or the N78 as an Mp3 player be prepared for heavy drain on your battery.
      I think it’s expected that the N82 will have a better camera. Ultimately Harry, you’ll have to ask yourself, whats more important: A heavy duty camera or a smoother interface w/ an FM transmitter otherwise they’re both the same. (I think the back of the N82 looks better)
    • Harry says:
      Thanx ZAK 4 ur concern, m gona buy N82 nw, both are of same cost, then its better i should buy N82.
    • Zak says:
      ;) good choice
    • Raidium says:
      I really can’t comment on this!! I would say the N82, but just becasue it looks cooler, lol. I’m stuck with my Centro until the HTC Touch Pro comes out for Sprint. Then I’m buying ir reguardless of upgrade eligibility or not! I’m a huge fan of Windows mobile but I’ve never tried my hand at a Symbian before. Wouldn’t mind trying but being constricted to CDMA, I’m at a loss for now. :cry:
    • sam says:
      zaaaaaaaaaaak
      teel me plz
      what is better in net n78 or n82
    • Zak says:
      On the net?
      I assume they’re both the same seeing as how youll probably be using the opera browser anyways.
      The N78 came in today and my gf has it.
      Ill invite her over tomo so i can play with her new phone and sweet vagina
    • sam says:
      coool so n82 is the perfect 1
    • Zak says:
      Just got a chance to play with it today
      First impressions: same as the N82 with a worse camera and the game “global racer” (runs at 40fps) lagged really bad
      But it has a really cool breathing effect
    • Raidium says:
      LOL. Wow, Zak… To much information up there a few comments ago. Hope you had fun playing with her “phone”. lmao! But i’ll take ur word for it, the N82 does seem like the best choice between the 2. :razz:
    • pulin says:
      can I chage FP1 on nokia N82 to FP2 as on nokia N78 ??
    • Zak says:
      Oh i had fun Radium, dont you worry (she just recently got a brazilian wax)
      But 2 answer the other dudes question - no, it isnt possible
      However i think its so stupid how a cellphone manufactured in 2008 wouldnt have animations between clicks
      Its just so basic
    • Harry says:
      Hey i bought N78, u knw wat i think tht m world’s biggest stupid out here, camera is just like N73 no change, the only positive thing is this the FP2, KEYPAD IS SO CHEAP, its very difficult to press the desired key. So my advice don’t go for N78 (never), nw m switching on to N82…..nw thts the good choice i hope so….
    • Zak says:
      What did I tell you Harry!
      I almost want to call you gay for purchasing it but I just purchased tix to the Backstreet Boys concert ;)
    • amit says:
    • Raidium says:
      Wow, Harry… You were sitting there asking questions about the phones and whatnot and u decided to go with the one that you were told was inferior? I’m with Zak on this one… gay… lol. :razz:
    • Zak says:
      LOL of course the N82 has a calendar, all S60 phones have calendars.
      The sound quality on the N78 and N82 are pretty similar, nothing that stands out though. To be honest, if sound quality is important to you, the N95 8GB goes much louder.
      Ironically, I sold my N82 today as the Xenon Flash cover broke and Nokia told me that my phone had a “Hong Kong” serial number and that they couldn’t help me. They gave me the phone number to the Hong Kong Customer Support line which spoke no english :)
      I will never buy another Nokia Product again.
      I’ll most likely be picking up a Samsung G810 next week.
    • wheng says:
      wat can u say abt the se w960?
      Your Xenon Flash cover broke!? How!?
    • Musharraf says:
      N78 is the finest mobile in my opinion
