Fuel cells i think really offer the opportunity of power for longer, which has to be a good thing. They also reduce toxic waste associated with batteries.
Another fuel cell developer i know has developed an ethanol fuelled fuel cell for consumer electronics. The benefit of this alternative over methanol fuelled fuel cells is that it does not have precious metal catalysts within it which will dramatically reduce the eventual cost of the product. Ethanol is also a more pleasant fuel to work with than methanol. For example it does not make you blind and potentially kill you!

That super-capacity Lithium battery would probably be more dangerous than a small quantity of a flammable substance. Storing and discharging energy has inherent risks. . .

The li-ion battery tech is definitely going to live on for years to come. But in the long term, I think fuel cells will eventually become the predominant energy source.

I think I like the idea of the tiny "hairs" in the lithium ion batteries better (lasts 10X longer)

I don't know how keen I'd be on putting a physical substance in my cell... :S??
