Verizon announces improved PTT service in the works

Not to be outdone by CDMA competitor Sprint (NYSE: S)’s QChat PTT service, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has just announced that they too will be rolling out an improved PTT (Push-To-Talk) service later this summer.
While Sprint’s iDEN-based Nextel operations have had the market cornered in terms of PTT prowess, but it seems that the two CDMA carriers are looking to bring PTT service to the masses in a big way. With Sprint bringing QChat to market to stay on top of the PTT market, Verizon is planning to improve their own PTT service accordingly.
It’s not clear what technology Verizon will be using for their new PTT system, nor is the time-frame for launch. But, if Verizon can successfully market their new PTT system with the right handsets, they might be able to give Sprint a run for their PTT-money.
