AT&T Motorola Q9h to get Windows Mobile 6.1 update

Chalk up another carrier-branded handset to get some Windows Mobile 6.1 OS update love. Following on the recent revelation that the Sprint Motorola Q9c would be blessed with the latest mobile OS from Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s Windows Mobile camp, AT&T (NYSE: T) has announced that subscribers with Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Q9h smartphones will be getting a Windows Mobile 6.1 update in the near future.
A bit of detective work has revealed that Motorola’s own website links to what is presumably a placeholder for the soon to be released Windows Mobile Standard 6.1 firmware.
We’ll keep an eye out for what has proven to be a quite-anticipated Windows Mobile OS update. For all you Motorola Q9h users out there, hang in there, WM6.1 is on the way!

Mobile 6.1
THANKS FOR THE LINK ABOVE! YOU ROCK!
Yeah well, I was the one that submitted the link to WMEXPERTS and I talked to AT&T this morning. They said they have no information on a release date and they are targeting 3rd or 4th quarter for the release. It doesn’t look like it is coming anytime soon.
THe Download Now link is now live at
http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/softwareupdatesummary.asp?country=USA&language=ENS&web_page_name=SUPPORT&strCarrierId=ATT&strPhone=MOTO%20Q9h&strCable=Mini%20USB%20Data%20Cable&chkwarranty=true&hdnShowPage=second
Has anbody tried it out?
That link has been there for the past several weeks. All it is, is a place holder for the real file that will go up once AT&T gives the go ahead.
It provides a download that runs an installer. I downloaded and ran the installer right up to the point that it was going to install, but then thought I would check with others prior to actually installing. If it is a placeholder, what is it installing?
It is the update file they used to update the Q9c. This is the same file that has been out there for several weeks. I’ve been checking that file daily. If you extract the file, you’ll find the firmware for the Q9c update. Moto is using this file as a place holder until AT&T says to release the actual update, which at this point will likely be in the fall or winter.
FYI, Motorola currently says the Q9h is incompatible with WM 6.1 (which is false). AT&T currently says they haven’t decided on whether or not to release WM 6.1 for the Q9h (which is false). Microsoft says that WM 6.1 is currently available for the AT&T Q9h (which is false). Who is to blame? I don’t know, but I’m leaning towards AT&T.
