HTC exec claims Windows Mobile 7 slated for early 2009?

You know what they say. “Loose lips sink ships - or they let slip some seriously exciting news.” Such is the case with HTC’s Kevin Chen’s statement about bringing Windows Mobile 7 to market early next year.

According to the HTC manager, we could see Windows Mobile-based smartphones launching with the long-awaited Windows Mobile 7 revamp in Q1 2009 - less than a year from now.

If we do end up seeing Windows Mobile 7 launching early in 2009, we have to wonder if high-end handsets like the HTC-sourced Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will be offered an OS update just months after its initial launch. That is, of course, assuming that Windows Mobile 7 is indeed launching in Q1.

And, it seems that the original source for this story has gone offline. Whether or not this bodes well for the prospect of seeing the Windows Mobile 7 OS in the first few months of 2009 is up in the air. We’ll have to wait and see if Windows Mobile 7 is truly headed to market in early 2009. Mobile World Congress 2009, perhaps?

Upgrading to a new server currently, hopefully we’ll be online soon!
