Picasa Web Albums on S60

Those of you that own some of the Symbian S60 smartphones and rely on Picasa to store photos will be glad to know that Google recently revamped Picasa Web Albums mobile website to make it work with the WebKit-based S60 browser. The user interface has been optimized for S60 phones, and the site even uses AJAX to make the experience more enjoyable. That makes me wonder – why oh why they haven’t released this earlier. After all, the iPhone version appeared so quickly even though there are 100 times more S60 devices than iPhones out there. Yeah, everyone and their mama loves Apple and Google is their “partner in crime,” but still, the S60 optimized version could potentially reach many, many more users.

Ok, they’ve now understood that and have even translated the site into 36 new languages. So it’s kinda mobile local photo gallery, when you think about it. ;)

In addition, the new Picasa Web Albums mobile site also works nice with both Windows Mobile Standard and Professional edition devices using Pocket Internet Explorer.
