Not exactly the “pure” mobile news but involves an important smartphone maker, HTC, so we’re going with it nevertheless.
Apparently, the Taiwan-based company is working on a new MID (Mobile Internet Device) products that will use Intel’s Atom and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset platforms and which will be unveiled during the second half of 2008.
According to HTC’s President and CEO, Peter Chou, they will continue to focus on “Internet experience through mobile devices” but will also adjust its deployment of UMPC products (HTC Shift). The reason for the change in their UMPC strategy is the rise of small and affordable laptop computers like the Asus eeePC, which people buy more.
So, is the MID device HTC’s answer to Asus eeePC and similar products? Guess we’ll have to see what they can do, and we do believe HTC is one capable company. We’ll watch this closely…
