iPhone 3GYesterday we got word that O2 would be offering their UK iPhone 3G customers the option to go pre-paid with the next-generation iPhone 3G. The UK O2 website indicated that the 8GB iPhone 3G would be available for £299.99 (about $600) without contract, while the 16GB iPhone 3G would command a £359.99 (about $700) price-tag for the privilege of using the handset on O2’s pay-as-you-go calling plans.

O2’s “Pay & Go” pre-pay option for the iPhone 3G was even bundled with 6 months of unlimited web browsing and WiFi hotspot access - after which the unlimited data package was apparently priced at just £10.

The pre-paid offering from O2 was seen as a boon for the contract-wary and those potential iPhone customers looking to keep their wireless options open. Unfortunately, it seems that O2 has taken down the iPhone 3G “Pay & Go” pricing information. How that bodes for the iPhone 3G offered with pre-paid pricing is unclear, but here’s to hoping that UK iPhone 3G hopefuls will be able to get their hands on a contract-free iPhone 3G.

For now, O2 is asking potential customers to register to be notified of any further updates on the iPhone 3G’s arrival in the UK.
