I tried this out with another phone as well as my iphoe, and How come when I am receiving sms back through my email as a reply they are all always blank, why is this happening and was like that with other apps as well, is there a setting that needs to be set or something.?

This email-to-SMS feature is available for almost all operators today – you just have to know the email address. For Nextel it is phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com. The same character limitations apply and replies are sent to your “reply to” email address (which you can set as your SMS address too).

You’re absolutely right. The email client is the replacement for MMS, leaving a glaring hole in the space where a real email client should be.
