BlackBerry Curve 8350 in works for Nextel?

BlackBerry Curve 8350?RIM is reportedly preparing another BlackBerry for Nextel’s iDEN network. And while you may wonder why would they invest their resources in iDEN, the fact stays that for people looking for push-to-talk service - Nextel rules. In addition, Nextel’s service is still being used extensively by some industries, which RIM may want to target as well.

Apparently, the Canadian handset maker will make the WiFi-enabled BlackBerry Curve 8350 for Nextel by the end of the year, though it may slip to early 2009. And that’s about all we know at this stage.

I can understand RIM wants to expand its market share by targeting as larger audience as possible. However, I don’t quite dig RIM’s idea to unveil the Curve to iDEN network users at the end of this year. Not that Curve is not a great device, on the contrary it gained quite a following, but the idea to introduce the Curve at the end of the same year when Bold and Thunder are introduced is kinda weird. Then again, Nextel’s users don’t have much choice anyways.

Obiously you have no clue what you are talking about when it comes to Nextel because al new push to talk divices use CDMA for voice and push to talk which makes them more powerful and useful than any other device on the market now.

Maybe you’re right, but if you search around the forums you’ll see that people who have used PTT on other carriers say that Nextel is the best, though they don’t like Nextel for other reasons. Check Engadget Mobile’s comments (our source for the story)…

why would RIM wait until the end of the year to release the phone with the BOLD and Thunder being its rivals… that makes no sense what so ever!

Ok so here is my thought on this idea. I was with Nextel for 6 years PTT rocks! IDen data blows……… So They have made a few hybrid phones here and there. CDMA for cellular service and IDen for the PTT. This would be an awesome phone if they did that. I only got rid of Nextel and went to Sprint because my work thought it would work out better for them without consulting the employees. I switched to Sprint and then about 45 days later my co-workers got their Nextels back. I was so frustrated! I could only hope for a hybrid Curve!

I really hope nextel comes through even if it is at the end of the year. I have been with nextel for 7 years and i love them BUT truth be told they really do need a new blackberry, so lets see.

I hope you weren’t responding to me about Nextel and PTT/CDMA. You have no clue at all about Nextel PTT. First off Sprint still sells Iden only phones have a look at the website. Data on the Iden network is very lacking. Since the merger Sprint came out with the hybrid CDMA for cellular service and Iden for PTT which were all produced by motorola except for the Blackberry. Sprint has now ventured out and now has CDMA/PTT produced by another manufacturer. You my friend need to get your facts straight before you go posting about things you have no clue about. My suggestion regarding the Possible new Curve would only make sense. If this new Curve did Support CDMA and Iden PTT I think this would be an awesome phone and I for sure would own one. It is the perfect business combo.

What are YOU talking about. This new BB will only be for iDEN. Both voice, data, and PTT will be IDEN. Yes, there are some Sprint Hybrid phones that use Sprint CDMA for voice and data and iDEN for PTT. They are also coming out with CDMA PTT called q-chat.

They are not getting rid of iDEN, even as newer q-chat is coming out. Q-chat will be able to use the old iDEN for PTT also. IDEN will surely still be the most reliable PTT for years to come.
