iPhone 3G numbers are out: 1 million devices sold, 10 million AppStore downloads

Apple today announced first weekend numbers for the iPhone 3G and AppStore. The results are stunning, to say the least.
On Sunday, Apple has sold one millionth iPhone 3G. That’s just three days after the launch on Friday, July 11. iPhone 3G is now available in 21 countries, and will hit France on July 17th.
As for the AppStore, during the weekend iPhone and iPod Touch users downloaded more than 10 million applications! AppStore has more than 800 native apps. Of that number, more than 200 are offered for free and more than 90% are priced at less than $10.
Steve is more than satisfied. He said: “It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”

Would like to see country specific figures.
One million / 21 countries ~= 50,000 per country average over three days.

Nice scoop Dusan, I was in the middle of writing this. No way to put it, that’s one hell of an accomplishment. Way to go Apple!
@KevinD: You’re not going to find that data anywhere, no phone manufacture gives out that kind of detailed information.

I’d like to see downloads per app details.
When I view the AppStore on my iPhone all the apps have “0 downloads” showing (obviously an error) - but it would be interesting to see how many times an app has been downloaded.

Well someone commented on this news at some other side (can’t remember where) and said that the original iPhone sold 700 000 pieces in 3 days in one country, and now the iPhone 3G sells 1 000 000 pieces in the same amount of time in 21 countries. So one might argue that there really wasn’t any progress. But of course 1 000 000 is a big number, but with the first iPhone the volume sold dropped pretty drastically after the launch, so we’ll see. And naturally not all the iPhone 2G owners are rushing to buy the 3G version.
BTW, I’m a long time mac user and I’ve seen the way Apple talks in public: the only reason they say anything is only to sell better image of Apple, and thus earn more money. I’ve seen Steve Jobs blatantly tell outright lies when selling Apple stuff, and so I take anything the man says with a grain of salt.

bullshyt — with a four-hour wait in line and then a 45 minute or so wait to activate them — IF successful — tons of people were turned away. they may have had a million show up in the stores for sale, but they weren’t sold. the invalid, crack-junkie sister — AT&T and Apple — can’t function that effectively.

I cracked up when I read all of the articles decrying the ‘iPocalypse’ and the ‘iFiasco’. Get a life, people. You’d think it was a replay of the Hindenburg disaaster. I downloaded the 2.0 version of the iPhone software at 8:45 AM Saturday morning, as well as two copies of iTunes 7.7. No problems. If we could rid ouselves of all of the whiners, imagine how much we could reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

It’s actually 1mil shipped to stores but only about half sold to customers. So Apple is claiming twice the actual salefigure… Typical.
