Wireless parking sensors alert San Francisco drivers to open parking spaces

Wouldn’t it be nice to be notified via your mobile phone, or even street signs, whenever a street-parking space opens up? Sure it would. And, in a city where parking is more valuable than your first-born (well, not quite, but almost), wireless notification of open parking spots are something of a blessing.
San Francisco has announced that 6,000 of their 24,000 metered parking spaces will be included in this new parking experiment. The trial will give SF motorists the ability to check maps on their handsets to find the nearest open parking spot – perhaps even allowing drivers to “feed” the meter with their cellphone and top-up the meter from afar.
It’s good to see a parking-starved city like San Francisco adopting new technologies to help ease the burden on its driving population. Of course, only time will tell just how much easier it will be to find a parking space.
