Cryptex phone concept

Here’s an interesting concept phone for all the Da Vinci Code fans out there. The so called Cryptex phone is the work of Marc Schömann and seems inspired by Dan Brown’s popular novel.

Here’s what Marc had to say about it:

You turn the dial of every element to the desired cipher. If you entered the number you turn the first segment “to phone” (green LED). If you want to hang up the call you turn the first segment to “hang up” (red LED). The phone works without buttons and without a display and based on the old dial phones.

Haptic technology used in the Cryptex phone concept may be cool, but a lack of a screen is a tough sell these days, nonetheless. In addition, twisting the device instead of typing doesn’t seem logical. Maybe the hard core Da Vinci fans will like the idea, but the masses just won’t buy it. Or at least that’s my take… Check out few more images after the jump.

Quite an interesting novelty phone. Making a quick call may take longer than with a normal phone, but it is a conversation piece alright.
