Even in Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s home-base of the good ‘ole U-S-of-A, Apple has had trouble keeping up with enormous iPhone 3G demand. With more than 1 million iPhone 3G units already out in circulation, it’s not hard to see why the rookie handset manufacturer is struggling to
keep their Apple Stores stocked with iPhone 3G’s. In response to the demand, Apple has even adopted new Apple Store operating hours.
The lack of iPhone 3G stock has spurred a new breed of Apple fans – the iPhone 3G hunters.
They’re a dedicated bunch, those iPhone 3G hunters. They’ll keep checking Apple’s iPhone availability webpage every few minutes, while calling their local Apple Store to inquire about iPhone 3G stock, every few minutes.
But, the rest of the iPhone 3G-fiends out there will just have to keep waiting for new shipments to arrive. This Topmuffin site had to be some kind of hoax. I kept updating and tracking the status of iPhones at a store 2 hours away in Dallas. I got there at 2PM with Topmuffin’s website still showing availability of all three models. When I went in and asked for one, they pretty much laughed at me. They said people line up every morning at 6:30 or 7:00, and they are sold out within minutes of opening up. Topmuffin sucks and owes me gas money.
