HTC Touch Diamond finally gets FCC approval with US 3G HSDPA support!

Well that sure took a while. As the rest of the world had the honor of being part of HTC’s launch markets for the up and coming HTC Touch Diamond, the US has had to wait for HTC to push their US-spec HTC Touch Diamond through the FCC. The HTC Touch Diamond already passed FCC tests in Euro-trim, but this latest approval gives the US-spec Diamond a thumbs-up for US duty.
Sure, devoted ROM cooks were able to give the Euro-spec HTC Touch Diamond some 850Mhz frequency capability. And then HTC came out with their own ROM update that gave the HTC Touch Diamond EDGE-support on the 850Mhz band. But, without a dedicated 850/1900Mhz 3G radio under the hood, the HTC Touch Diamond just couldn’t crack the US market like we’d hoped.
But, as they say, the longer the wait, the sweeter the reward. And, with the fully US-3G compatible HTC Touch Diamond getting the greenlight from the FCC, we’re finding ourselves giddy with excitement for the iPhone-fighting HTC Touch Diamond to put its VGA display up against all
smartphone competitors in The States.
For now, all we have to go on is an image of the FCC label. But, seeing as how the world is well-versed in all things Diamond, a simple label is more than enough for now. HTC Touch Diamond – next stop, the US!
Here’s a quick rundown on the HTC Touch Diamond spec-sheet:
- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
- TouchFLO 3D
- 256MB ROM / 192MB RAM
- 4GB storage
- Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) MSM 7201A @ 528MHz
- Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE
- Dual-band (850/1900Mhz) HSPA
- 2.8″ VGA (480×640) touchscreen display (!)
- Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
- WiFi
- Orientation sensor
- FM Radio
- eGPS
- 3.2MP auto-focus camera
- Front-facing VGA camera
- 900mAh battery

Are you sure about the 128MB RAM?
HTC’s site lists:
ROM: 256 MB
RAM: 192 MB DDR SDRAM
Internal storage: 4 G
Also, it for sure IS a 2.8″ VGA display, and many people are also unsure whether or not the US version will have the front-facing camera.
The diamond also has NO FLASH, and NO MICRO SD CARD SLOT.
Also, (not sure about this), isn’t it aGPS, not eGPS?
right you are! that’s what I get for being lazy and cut/pasting from a previous article. Post updated
Haha still not completely correct – there is NO microSD card in the HTC Touch Diamond.
WOOT!!! I’ve been waiting so god damn long for this phone to hit the us, personally i dont mind that it doesnt have a microSD slot but i can see why people would want it, but for me i love the phone how it is, just can’t keep my self for waiting so long ; ;. a few other phone sites, said phone is suppose to be in the us ( says ppl quoting htc ppl) in august, but then again i’ve of 2 days ago i see them saying decemember? O.O WTH i can’t wait that long… im tired of w950i >.>
Hehe a 3g phone in the us, that runs on windows software (which i like and dont mind) bluetooth, wifi, sms, 850mhz, touchscreen, 4 gb of memory for fav music, and i am a happy man. !! cant wait ; ;
Yeah I know, same. Although I’m waiting for the HTC Touch Pro – microSD slot, keyboard, more RAM.
I heard the release date should be around SEPTEMBER 2, so I don’t know where you got the December release date. Can’t wait! I just hope it’s under $500 unlocked.
Hmm just glanced at the pro specs, seems tempting to get that, rather than the diamond but, for it is the shape of the diamond, i like how it is flat and square with no curves. but then the pro i see has microSD, ( was hoping for micoSDHC, even thought 16GB microsd > 4 gb internal..) and then it has a full keyboard, been use to keyboard since cell phone came out, so it comes down to, do i want keyboard or a thick phone >.>, any suggestions?
Will ATT carry this phone? If yes, when?
AT&T will not be carrying this phone. I operate a franchise. However, I will be carrying this phone :p
even if att doesn’t this phone, would the 3g work on it? if not then im saying goodbye to att and hello to whoever is carrying it for its support of 3g, fk the iphone
I do believe when these were first introduced to us on here, the poster said that they were suppose to be coming out for Sprint! Man, I hope that is still true because I’m with Sprint right now and I plan on getting the Touch Pro the instant it is released to the public!
It’s unknown which carrier’s will snatch up the HTC Touch Diamond and Pro phones, but we will know soon
. I just hope it’s less than $500 unlocked off ebay or some other online store…or better yet let’s just make it unlocked at Best Buy for like $400. That would make me happy
.
And Dave, my opinion would be that you should go with the HTC Touch Pro – it’s not terribly thick and I think the keyboard and microSD slot are worth it – a lot of people still complain about how hard to use on-screen keyboards (even the iPhone’s) are.
I just read that this will be under att also http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1386
Diamond will come out this month for Sprint and Att. August for the Raphael. Sprint for sure will get it first. I just heard that Att will be getting it by December. sigh. so looong.
I’m tired of my razor. -_______-
haha i’m tired of my razr as well. i’m waiting for the touch pro / raphael…just hoping that the rumored sep 2nd release date is accurate…
Same. I was so close on getting the Iphone since I’m a huge itunes user. Now that the Raphael is a month or so away, i decided to wait. Not only that, it has everything i need. I can’t wait to try video calling.
wow! this is great!
I have a simple question, let say the 3G version touch diamond is available in the US, does that mean that version will only be 3G available in the US?
What??? The US 3g version will have US 3G. They also have cleared the CDMA versions with 3G – EVDO REV. A – for like Sprint and stuff.
You phrased that weirdly. It passed the US FCC for 3G…I don’t really know what you’re asking.
I think he’s asking if the US 3G Diamond will be compatible with European 3G bands. My understanding is the the US 3G Diamond will be a dual-band 3G device – UMTS/HSPA on the 850/1900Mhz bands. European 3G requires 2100Mhz UMTS/HSPA
Yes that’s what I am asking.
so that means the US 3G Diamond will only work in US (3G capability wise)?
It’ll work on the 800/1950 mhz spectrum if I’m correct. I don’t know what other countries use those bands but it should work in those countries.
Also, the Europe version is also out which has the…other bands. So between the two versions you should be able to find one that works in your country.
I am currently in the US but then there’s a possibility of me moving out to Asia/Europe. so I don’t know which version to get… what you guys think?
Guyz .. this is mid of august, any updates on the HTC Touch Diamond US with HSDPA 1900? I cant stop waiting. Please post if any updates..
Any updates on ATT carrying this phone? Release date?
