T-Mobile Sidekick LX OTA update will enable video recording and playback [update]

As expected, Boy Genius got his hands on the T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) Sidekick LX OTA update. BGR is confirming that, in addition to spell checker, play and share capabilities, an alarm clock, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), Bluetooth file transfer support, the Sidekick LX OTA (otherwise known as an “update”) does indeed enable video recording and playback.
For you Sidekick LX owners out there, try to stay calm as the update is rolled out. In the meantime, enjoy the screenshots of the new Sidekick LX UI over at BGR.

It looks like the OTA update is finally starting to be rolled out to the masses. If you still haven’t gotten the update, just keep waiting. The Sidekick LX OTA update is random and will be delivered to your HipTop by the end of August (or so we hear).

You know, with all the stuff this update added to the sidekick, how big is the file? How long would it take your device to update?

wow u people are kinda stupid. the picking of the OTA is completely random. so it doesn’t mean if ur a long time user ur gonna get choose first. and considering tat people say that the roll out of this OTA is suppose to be June 25, so it had to be a time after this date to actually get this update.
Alright to end all arguments:
1. OTA update is completely random. There is absolutely nothing you can do to get it sooner. Soft resets, hard resets, etc will NOT force an OTA update. If you soft reset and got the OTA, it was a coincidence.
2. It has NOTHING to do with where you’re located. If someone in New York gets it, the next person could be in Utah. Doesn’t make a difference.
3. You’ve had your lx for 6 months holy crud you’re a Sidekick veteran and the new Sidekick users are losers!?!? You’re a kook.”Sidekick veteran?” Please. You don’t deserve it any more than anyone else. In fact, for saying something so idiotic you should get it last (as if it even matters who gets it when)

I have a question. Because I call tmobile only 1000x and a few reps told me tmobile will sometimes send out an email and or auto-update boxes. You no how it would come up if you just brought a game, asking you update now etc…My question is has any one heard of this because I got a email from tmobile a week ago but I didn’t read it, just thought it was crap so I erased it.If the update does send out a via email am I gonna get it again or what?
yoo i got my update today in the morning and i cancled it by mistake =(…i called t-mobile they said it will resend hopeful it does…

It’s true. The reason probably is because Danger is in charge of the whole update. We just got to wait patiently for it to come. Good things come to people who wait. But I’m not going to lie I think about it everyday. I’m always on my phone looking for it 2 pop up. I wish they all send it all out at once.

Anonymous I know how you feel, really… I remember like 2 days before I even found out about this ota, I was at the T Mobile store, ready to upgrade to either a Curve a Dash or a Wing, but I passed, and those phones seem so much more worth while than the SK? if I’m not mistaken, the Curve already has vid capabilities and I think it has flash cap. as well and the Dash is just bad ass, but I love my Sidekick, its the best thing in the world to me :], and I know that the update will just make having it a Whole ofa hell lot better to have – Go SK!

Did any1 ever ask for the sidekick department insted of the regular people that just helps u with ur min cause i talk to the sidekick department and they said the ota is true. But it sounds to me like ya never ask the sidekick department just the first people that just know about ur plan and other shit they dont need to know about ur phone and whats going on cause thats why they send u to other departments. So when u talk to the automated machine ask for the sidekick department they can answer all.
Well I don’t believe there’s a ota for the sidekick because when I called cs they said if it was then everybody would have to get another lx or slide in the mail. But hey I might be wrong an if it is true…can you get ota for prepaid?
