Sony Ericsson India gets a President and Region Head
By Dusan Belic on Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 at 4:19 AM PST In Announcements, Sony Ericsson

We all know India is an important market for every single handset maker, so it doesn’t surprises that today Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) announced a new major position in the country and an experienced person in charge. The Swedish-Japanese handset maker appointed Anil Sethi as a President and Region Head of Sony Ericsson India with immediate effect.
Anil joins Sony Ericsson after almost 8 years with Sony Canada in Toronto, where his most recent position was Senior Vice President of Broadcast & Business Solutions and Systems Integration. Prior to this role, he completed a number of high profile international assignments within the Sony Group including, senior business and commercial roles in Europe, India, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. During this time Anil established and managed Sony’s first production facility in India and was closely involved in setting up the Sony Gulf regional operations, with its hub office in Dubai, and the Sony India organisation, headquartered in Delhi.
Commenting on its appointment, Anil said: “I am delighted to return to India and bring home my international business experience. The Indian marketplace is exciting and of strategic importance to Sony Ericsson. Our manufacturing presence and R&D in India is a reflection of our commitment to this great country and its growing consumer base.”
At his new job, Mr. Sethi will be based at the Sony Ericsson offices in Delhi.

Wow…
I never thought a parent could name their child after a type of sex.
Good luck there Anal!
Could I have the email id of some senior in Sony Ericsson. There service centre( 5 days old) is completely fucked up & they have taken new handset for replacement & not giving deadline when to return same. Its alreday 15 days & I am without mobile & struggling with their fucked up service set up.
It’s been whole damn 3 weeks i gave my mobile for serivce and yet no deadline for the return date. Every time i give them a call i end up listening to the same line “Will take 2 – 3 days more”.
Could you please speed up the rate of your servicing.
I also need Anil Sethi’s contact details. I bought a handset and within 24 hrs returned it as it was faulty. They are refusing to replace for a flimsy reason. I have not come across a worse service.
I purchased a Sony Ericsson K530i handset on 19th Dec 2007 for Rs.9200/-.
2. Within two months of purchase, i.e., in February/March itself the set started to give trouble. The main problem being that from time to time the handset would not get charged. Since I have owned two Sony handsets before buying this set, which had exactly the same problem which would usually get sorted out on its own, I put it down to some kind of temporary non-serious problem and did not report the issue to the service station. In April 2008, when the problem cropped up with alarming frequency, I sent one of my office staff to the … Sony service centre. The service centre informed that there was some problem in the micro chip which will take a couple of days to repair but as I was about to leave for an outstation tour and the problem was not very serious I did not send the set for repairs.
3. However on 24th October 2008 the set again refused to take charging at all and therefore I sent the set to the same service centre on 25th October 2008 for repair. The Service Centre informed that the set has ‘liquid seepage’ and as such would not be repaired/replaced by the company.
4. Now the Service Centre has conveyed that I would be required to pay 70% of the original cost viz Rs. 7000/- to repair my handset which is barely 11 months old purchased at a cost of Rs. 9200/-. Furthermore, I am certain that the price of this particular model would have come down further as on date.
However, I am unable to understand why I should be held responsible for what is obviously a manufacturing defect in either this particular handsets or more seriously in all the products/mobile handsets manufactured/marketed by Sony Ericsson. As I have stated earlier, I have prior experience with Sony Ericsson mobile handsets and a similar problem had been experienced by me with Mobile Set model bearing Number T 230. Similarly, when I was posted as Deputy General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., West Bengal Telecom Circle, Kolkata the Sony Ericsson handsets officially provided to me also had similar problems.
4. Now the question that remains unanswered is ‘what is liquid damage and how it is detected?’ I have explained/clarified to all the concerned personnel at the Service Centre, namely, the in-charge of Service Centre, the Engineer, the manager – ‘Sony world show room’ and even the Receptionist of the Service Centre (who also chose to interrogate me over this issue), that I am an extremely careful user (having worked in the Telecom industry for more than 10 years) and that I have not exposed my handset to any kind of moisture (let alone liquid) of any sort and that this problem was pre-existing in the handset ab-initio. In fac,t I have two 7/8 year old cell phones still in usable condition with me, of which one happens to be Sony Ericsson and it has exactly the same problem of not taking charge from time to time! Therefore, if at all so called ‘liquid seepage’ exists it may be because your handsets are unable to function with even atmospheric moisture such as is available in the air of Pune! And why is a poor customer being made to suffer and pay for what is clearly a manufacturing defect is beyond my comprehension. Further from the above it can be safely concluded that there has been some kind of manufacturing problem in the Sony Ericsson handsets and especially in this handset. As if the handset gets damaged from moisture in a dry climate such as Pune’s then there must be a serious problem which definitely cant be attributed to a user/customer. However, one look at my handset which is in pristine condition, would reveal that there cannot be such liquid seepage to the extent as to render the handset un-repairable.
5. Further, the Service Centre Receptionist and Engineers are showing me a small strip of red inside the hand set as the symbol of liquid damage, but when I was sold the hand set, the said strip was already red for all I know! How can it be a proof that I have exposed my set to liquid and have made this red is again not understood? It is evident that Sony Ericsson wants to lead on its customers with such frivolous excuses.
6. Further, this kind of attitude is unheard of in any company except Sony Ericsson. All the other mobile handset manufacturers respect the right of the customer to the warranty period and repair/replace the handset within that time at least. Whereas Sony Ericsson on some pretext does not even want to honour that minimum warranty period of one year. It is to be noted here that I purchased this handset on 19th of December 2007 and the one year period is not over yet!
7. Finally, I would like to add that it is extremely distressing for a genuine customer like me who has been using Sony Ericsson handsets for long time to be treated like this. In today’s competitive environment when customers are treated with care and dignity, it is expected that Sony Ericsson may show better appreciation of my problem and give me a positive response for which I shall be very grateful. I and my staff have been visiting the Salora Service Centre, Bibvewadi, Pune and the Sony World Show Room, Lulla Nagar Pune on past several occasions starting from Oct 25th 2008.

SIR,
I HAD PICKED UP A PHONE SONY ERICSSON P910I IN THE YEAR 17/12/05 WHICH WAS SWAPED ON THE DATE 28/11/06 AS IT HAD MANUFACTURING DEFECT.AGAIN THIS SET ALSO WAS GIVEN ON 4/12/06 AS KEYPAD STOPPED WORKING,WHICH WAS NEVER REPAIRED AND I SURVIVED ON TOUCH SCREEN AS YOUR STAFF SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRENTY. AROUND 6 MONTHS BACK THE MOTHER BOARD OF THE SET GOT BURNT FOR REASONS BEST KNOWN TO YOU. I WAS ONLY USING ORIGNAL CHARGER. WHEN I WENT FOR REPAIRS TO MY HORROR THE CENTRE SAID THAT THE SET HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED AND I HAVE TO PAY 70% OF THE LAST COST OF THE HANDSET AS PAYMENT FOR THE BOARD WHICH CAME TO AROUND 8000/ AS PER THEM. I FELT CHEATED FOR ASKING SUCH HEAVY AMOUNT FOR REPAIRS. ALTHOUGH I HAVE ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS AND I AM THINKING OF GOING TO THE CONSUMER COURT ,BUT THOUGHT LET MY TRY THE SIGHT ALSO. THEY WAY I HAVE SUFFERED I EXPECTED A NEW SET FROM YOU IF NOT HELP TO UPGRADE ON EXCHANGE. BUT I THINK I AM DEALING WITH BUNCH OF CHEATS.FOR A SERVICE CLASS 25000/ IS A GOOD AMOUNT. PL SEE IF YOU CAN HELP ME IN THIS REGARD.

I have been experiencing the most horrible customer care service for a product. Happen to purchase a basic model sony ericcson phone, the model was having a headset which later developed some problem for which it was handed over to Service centre in India – Chennai- Tambaram. It was informed the headset needed to be replaced and was taken by the service centre on 11-12-2008(Complain receipt no:1547) and was told that the same would be replaced within a weeks time. But till date it is not replaced and I have been asked to come to collect the headset 4 times, only to find that an excuse is given that stock is not available and will be given within 2 days. This is pathetic service from a well known brand like Sony Ericcson. Getting worst from bad is the response from your call centre when contacted they registered a complaint viz no:SE714-13083 and told 48 hrs to respond, but after 4 days when contacted they say another 4 days required to respond to the querry. Now all this is happening on a very basic headset replacement issue.cannot imagine what will be the plight of the customer’s purchasing high end phones.
With all due respect to the company, Iam requesting you to kindly do the needful and solve the issue.
I dont believe that the headset replacement is still pending after 2months,even after regular follow up and complaint registration.

Dear Sir,
Ref. W-5801 Sony Ericsson Handset bearing number 35 353736021403896 Purchased on 25-06-2008
Sub. Mall functioning and poor service
The above mentioned Sony Ericsson handset purchased by me on 25-06-2008 has been sent to ASCENTEL for service in March – April 09 (replaced the motherboard) and now again on 02/06/09.
Earlier you have replaced the motherboard twice but the problem still persists and the functioning was unsatisfactory and hence the service has been redelivered to ASCENTEL on 02/06/09 as per their acknowledgement card number 272. In spite of my persistent follow-up with your service people, and call centre (caseno-SE1490-4437), I am yet to get back my handset. Such extreme delay in service as we as repeated malfunctioning does not speak well about either the product or for the company and the consumer looses confidence in the product it self. It is certain that there is fundamentally some thing wrong with the particular handset, I had been using different models of Sony Ericsson handset and this is my 6th Sony Ericsson handset and never faced such a problem earlier but since buying this particular handset, I have lost my peace of mind because of nonfunctioning of this set. I request you to please replace this defective handset and restore my confidence in the product without any further delay
I bought C-905 8 mega pixel camera phone for Rs.33000/-. It is a useless product. Phone starting giving trouble within 02 months. I consulted the dealer. He told me to visit ‘Sony Eriscon Service Centre’ Which was even more useless. They opened my phone just to see what was wrong and its been almost one month phone has been lying there. Part in question the slide flex lead is not available in India (It looks like) and all my contacts and every thing is in the phone, when I call service help line New Delhi number they tell me to wait another 4-5 days. This has been happening since 15-20 days. My complaint number is SE1489-6245. Now I am planning to go to press and electronic media and urge people not to buy Sony Eriscon useless products.

When given to repair under warranty, the sevice sentre is replying we don’t have spare part and customer care centre is replying we are arranging spare part and almost one month have past and I am without mobile set.
Sony Ericsson sets are made in china are substandard and highly unrelaible. Above all the servisce support is pathetic. My advice to customers is nerver purchase Sony Ericsson mobile in India.
