Orb (www.orb.com) has already been doing this for several years and have it working on a wide variety of mobile handsets. I would find it hard to believe that Apple’s patent would hold up under closer scrutiny considering the software, such as Orb, that already exists out there.

Sony already does this with their PSP/PS3 connectivity. The PSP can connect to the PS3 from anywhere using a Wifi signal (it’s not peer-to-peer). Apple could potentially use the 3G network to deliver content faster to the consumer to their iphone. I’m not sure I’m comfortable with peer-to-peer connections as it relates to privacy.

WinAmp remote has done this for awhile, although I’m not sure if it works with the Apple stuff.
