Two music services launches in one week…. this is crazy!

Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) has just launched it’s second, yes second, music download store for the UK market. As you most likely know if you are a Voda customer, Omnifone’s streaming MusicStation service has been running for some time – but now Vodafone has added “Vodafone Music”.

The store is runs as a client application on the handset, and utilises the music player already on the device. For starters, 11 handset models will have the service available on them, and the app can be downloaded on to others. Costs are going to be £0.99 for singles, and £7.99 for albums (hmm, where have I seen that pricing before….?).

An interesting question will be what effect the new service will have on the existing Omnifone-powered service. The cost model offered for MusicStation is somewhat different, with unlimited tracks available for £1.99/week.

So it appears it’s knives out in the Operator war for Mobile Music – let’s see who is next…..!
