Samsung Messager lands on MetroPCS; Heavy texters rejoice!

Samsung has recently announced the Samsung Messager aka SCH-r450 for MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS). According to the official release and common sense I might add, the full slide-out QWERTY-keyboard equipped device is “a great fit for people who love text messaging.”
Other specs include a 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.1-inch 176X220 pixels screen, stereo Bluetooth support, speakerphone, “Advanced Voice Recognition,” and a microSD memory expansion slot. As for the pre-installed apps, aside from the standard mobile apps (calculator, calendar, contacts, etc), the Messager comes pre-loaded with music player, IM and email client. Size wise, it measures 4.4×2.0×0.7 inches and you can get more information from MetroPCS’ website.

it will connect using the usb cord. BUT you have to buy a micro chip to go in the back of it by the battery. i got mine at block buster for 12.99.

I’ve had absolutely no problems with this phone. I don’t know what Leah means, but mine connects to the computer just fine. The service is excellent and the quality of this phone is outstanding.
just bought this phone…i actually like it..i love the way it looks especially the way the font looks while texting..everything is clear and large…the pictures are clearer then a lot of phones i had in the past and the internet works quicker then the kyocera…i like the extra capabilities like mp3, bluetooth, etc…but the only thing i hate is that i can no longer download FREE RINGTONES!!!!…if anyone knows a way around this so that i can set songs as ringtones for my contacts please let me know
all you need is the memory card in the phone and you transfer ringtones to the card then once you get them there you can transfer them to your phone ringtones… it only works if you have a memory card though

any electronics store will have it… once you buy it just put it in your phone and plug your usb cable in and start transferring files… i think its called an sd card
Sorry, I meant where can I find the phone. I have been looking everywhere for a keyboard phone compatible with metro pcs. I wish phones were universal. What a monopoly!

For those who want free ringtones, you can try phonezoo.com. I just got this phone for my boyfriend & I can send free ringtones that I made to him with no problem; with or without a memory card. It doesn’t have the phone model itself listed, but it’ll still work. Hope it works out for y’all.
I tried phonezoo, its the same problem as other WAP based sites.
Phonezoo is great, but MetroPCS blocks the download of media content over WAP.
You can however, like the previous poster mentioned, use a memory card and a usb cable to put ringtones on the phone. You can even get the ringtones from phonezoo and then use that method to transfer.
Ok, so I bought the memory card and I have the usb cable. I registered at phonezoo… Now now the heck do I download ringtones? Can someone walk me through step by step? PLEASE!!!

I have the Samsung r450 and you CAN get ringtones but first you need the micro sd card (about $18 for a 2 gig at WalMart),it goes in a slot under the battery cover. Then format the card under memory settings in the phone. Plug in the cord that came with the phone,and open ‘my computer’ and find the new letter drive and open it, it will say my images, my ringtones etc.
You can then go to mytinyphone or wherever and save ringtones to your pc and then drag them into the ringtones folder. Mine only work in the ringtones folder for some reason it wont show in the my sounds folder. This is a very nice phone and hopefully this will help.
Also if the above doesnt work and it should, you can always record whatever you want under my sounds and set it as a ringtone.

I don’t get it, I have a microSD card but i can’t find the friggin slot. it’s not under the battery cover, not under the battery, not on any of the sides….what the? can someone help plsssssss.. i’ve been searching all over the inet for instructions or some kind of illustrations but nada
when you take the battery cover off the back, look on the right SIDE of the phone, there is a thin hole where the card goes

hello… i am having trouble veiwing what is on my memory card. i want to transefer the pictures i had on my old phone to my samsung using my memory card and when i insert the memory card it pulls up blank… cann you please help me
maria you can leave the card in the phone and use the plug that came with it instead, it will show the same exact thing as if you plugged the micro card into the computer slot. Once its pluged in look in ‘my computer’ for the new letter drive, open it, and you should be able to see my images, my ringtones, my music, and my sounds, then you can drag or copy your pix into the my images folder.
this phone work with mac computers ?
OS X support – Yes. I use Bluetooth to transfer my files onto the phone and card. No issues. Don’t have a data cable so I don’t know if there are any issues there..but if you have Bluetooth..why use the cable?
Have to say though..the battery life is poor. I’m in a medium signal area (1-3 bars usually) and the phone can go from charged to 1 bar in less than 24 hours just in standby. That’s the worst performing phone/battery life I’ve ever seen. I’ve deep cycled this phone at least three times and that hasn’t helped. Bluetooth is off.

My Vista PC has stopped recognizing the Messager. It still charges through USB, but that one “connected” screen doesn’t come up nor does it show up in my device manager/my computer. Any suggestions?
well i just got the phone for Metro and it is amazing.
its better than my other 2 phones that i had.
the thing is that you have to buy the memory card separate which sucks but the phone is perfect if you love to text.
I’ve downloaded my own custom ringtones w/o a miniSD card. I don’t know if u can xfer MP3s via Windows Media Player, but the phone cannot play WMAs. I used bluetooth to xfer files bc I am unable to find a driver for the data cable. Trouble downloading full-screen custom wallpapers and bummed by no video, but a great txting device.
I do not like this phone. The text feature is great but it randomly goes to silent mode without me doing anything.
I have the samsung r-450 and can’t figure out how to use the usb cable and what is the software you have to use for it.
Have had this phone for a few weeks. I like it, but, with cricket at least, you cant do email with out searching google for gmail. Maybe I just need to play with it more….

i love this phone it lets me text alot wiich is good because i have alot a ppl tht like to tlk to me 24/7.. i only have two problems i cnt turn it off of silent mode and i dnt no how to upload pictures or download musiq but thts cuz im a lil slow… no the phones fault…but ya i love it its inredibly sweet i lub it yo
This phone is a waste of money. The sounds application make the phone black out when you try to view them if you have downloaded free ringtones. Also, the phone doesn’t even have a video camera, and if your nails are too long you cant press the top keys unlike a flip open phone(envy 2).
Amber, I had the same problem with the silent mode the first week I got it and I called the store from where I purchased it and they told me if I remember correctly to press the # for a couple of seconds and it would go back to normal and it did.

well i actulaay hated it at first then i got use to it. i download my songs on the internet use my usb cord to transfer my 2gb cost me 6.35 @ the micro center since then ive been a happy sailor but it still not better than my nokia 6265i thta phone was the best
wow ok i got this the samsung messager with cricket for christmas and i have a memory card, but i can’t get the files from my computer on to the card, idk how to get them to my phone’s music player

Okay people… Just to inform something that you may enjoy. I am with cricket and have this phone. There’s an awesome website I’ve been using for a couple of months now (without being charged, swear to god) called zedge.net. Free ringtones and wallpapers, etc. I love this site.
Anyone happen to know where I can find this messenger phone for a lesser price that what MetroPCS is selling it for? I use MetroPCS so I want to continue using them. I don’t think a phone is worthy of such a high price as this one is offer here in Florida at $199.00

I’ve formatted my memory card and is still having problems retrieving music. The computer does recognize the device. the applicationin which I am using to retrieve the music is windows media player, it sychs with it and goes through the process of syching the songs to the sch-r450. I but when I detach the device (sch-r450) I can not locate what I have syched to the device…PLEASE HELP!!! I WANT 2 LOVE THIS PHONE :O)
Theres gotta be an easier way to get ringtones for this samsung messenger phone a phone that cost as much as it does should be able to perfom an easy task such as download songs from funformobile.com and not be told you phone doesnt support the data. Does anybody know a perfect free website to download ringtones right from the phone. PLEASE HELP!!!
People on here are really complaining about issues which if they do some simple research they can figure out. If you are transferring any files from the phone to the PC you need Samsung PC Studio, installed. The battery life is probably one of the BEST features of the phone, so those who complained about that has a shit battery. The phone is great, you think the slider thing will break like right away but its very durable. I have bought a plastic rubber case from AccessoryGeeks (which has terrible customer service), so I am not really recommending them. You can get from 2 gb to 16 gbs! with those micro-SD cards. 16 GB of memory is wayyy plenty enough for this phone. Texting is great, only basic internet options, and you will not be able to download anything on MetroPCS. But you can counter this by just transfering files from your PC to the phone, which works very well, with Samsung PC Studio! This is by far the best MetroPCS phone available. If you want an Iphone don’t by a Metro.. buy a damn Iphone!
If you want ringtones, the way I do it is, play a song over the speakers on the computer, stereo, whaever, dont get too close or it will sound distorted.. Now use the voice recorder, or the voice memo whatever the option is, save the file.. Now, open up a NEW PICTURE message, in the text.. Do NOT add a pic or it will take forever, scroll down and add the sound file for whatever song you recorded and text it to yourself, when it opens up, save the sound file thru the text option, all you have to do is go into “saved sounds” and assign it and there ya go, you got a ringtone, Ive got a bunch of em.. Metro fuckin sucks in that aspect but you do what ya can to pimp ya phone out ya digg dem blues? If anyone has any problems email me at its_rick_james_btch@yahoo.com or keyko1349@gmail.com
