UK - Orange Broadband TV trials go large!

As I have mentioned in previous articles, Orange has been working on an IPTV solution that delivers programming over the broadband service they operate. They are already deployed in France, but now the UK is coming under the spotlight.

The trials in the UK are apparently running across the country, and the technology is said to be mature enough for a launch. Orange won’t give a date at the moment, but we do know that the service links broadband and TV, offering on-demand services, plus some other content.

Why is this important for Mobile? Because you can bet that post-launch, Orange will be looking to roll out attractive packages that include both broadband, their TV service, and Mobile, all in one - or in other words, a convergent offering.

Orange will have it’s work cut out though, since Sky and Virgin are the two goliaths in Pay-TV services in the UK. There is also the not-small sized BT, with it’s Vision offering.
