iPhone 2.0.2 OS update doing more bad than good?

For those of you affected by iPhone 3G network problems, you likely took the news of Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s latest iPhone 2.0.2 OS update as a ray of hope breaking through the dark cloud of 3G connectivity issues. Following on iPhone 2.0.1 OS, Apple released their iPhone 2.0.2 OS with vague “bug fixes” in tow. The update was regarded by many as the end-all solution to their 3G network woes. Alas, the iPhone 2.0.2 OS seems to be causing more problems for some users, while others have yet to see their 3G network connectivity problems resolved.
Sure, there are many out there that have noticed a marked improvement in the iPhone 3G’s keyboard responsiveness and improved web-surfing reliability. But, the majority isn’t the concern here. The minority of iPhone 3G users experiencing problems is just as, if not more, important to Apple’s public relations than the majority of problem-free users. Praise for a working product can’t help mask the complaints of the enraged few that deserve to have a fully-working handset.

The iPhone 2.0.2 OS seems to not only have failed to fix 3G reception issues, but has caused third-party applications to crash repeatedly, sometimes failing to start up at all. And, some iPhone 3G users are experiencing problems with voice calls on the 3G network – specifically, they just can’t make alls on the 3G network.
It seems that Apple sees the bug-addled minority as a compelling reason to get another iPhone OS update out in to the ether. There are claims that Apple has responded to some email inquiries, assuring them that solutions to iPhone 3G connectivity issues and crashing application will be released soon. But, the real question is, what is Apple doing with their iPhone 2.0 OS that is causing so many problems? The iPhone 1.0 OS was rock-solid in comparison, what is it about 2.0 that Apple just can’t seem to get right?
Perhaps the next iTunes update will help fix some problems?

Unfortunately I HAD a relatively stable iPhone until the 2.0.2 update. Kind of an interesting, new experience, having an update actually cause more problems than existed previously.
Anyhow, stringing out the problem is obviously a cunning ploy by Apple to get frustrated users to admit defeat and eventually accept that their phone will never actually work as it should
That Steve Jobs, he’s no ninny….
It might be time to start looking at a more reliable replacement for my iPhone. Mobile Windows platform is looking really good now.
Workaround? I’ve reinstalled ONE third-party application and suddenly all other seem to be working again…
Version 2.0.0 and 2.0.1 worked ok for me. A crash here and there. But now, 2.0.2 is stuck in a perpetual loop of not installing and trying to re-install. LAME. I can’t even use my phone!!!
I just installed the 2.02 update today and now none of my third party apps work, in fact they do not even launch. I’ve tried everything suggested by various users but nothing works for me. The sad thing is that I did not even need to take the update, my 3G connectivity worked fine. Screw it, my employer uses Blackberry’s and that’s the way I’m going now. Good job Apple…idiots.
I’m in the same boat as cebusa! This is ridiculous! My network was totally fine. I figured “why not update?” I figured it couldn’t make anything worse and now NONE of my 3rd party apps work. They startup for 2 seconds and sends me back to the springboard menu. This has happened before but all I had to do was restart the phone or DL a new app which kick starts the rest somehow. But nothings working and it’s been this way for days. I’m fuckin pissed. Is there a way to downgrade back to 2.0.1??????!!
As a Windows and Linux user who has purchased several Apple products over the years including three Macs, my overall experience is that Apple’s concern for the customers ends the day the product is purchased. After that their solution to every issue is to buy a new, updated product from them. Good business plan, but in the long run it doesn’t make a lot of friends.
Dude it’s your phone so grow up! My phone dosen’t work wahhhh!!!!
