SingTel offers free iPhone with Visual Voicemail or iTunes Store

Singapore is set to offer the Apple iPhone 3G for free to customers signing qualified monthly contracts. For those Singaporeans willing to fork over $145 every month, SingTel will give them a free 8GB iPhone 3G. The $145 per month plan gives the customer 1,5000 minutes and 3GB of data. Unfortunately, the cheap iPhones won’t come with Visual Voicemail (likely due to lack of compatible carrier technology) or the iTunes Store.
SingTel customers looking for cheaper monthly rate plans can get the 8GB iPhone 3G for $247, when purchased with a $40 per month rate plan. The cheapest plan gets you 200 wireless minutes and 1GB of data – not too shabby.
But, with no Singapore iTunes store to speak of, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) has kept the iTunes Store application off the Singaporean iPhone 3G. And, without Visual Voicemail, SingTel customers will just have to revert to the old call-in and check voicemail system.

Visual voicemail is overrated so you guys aren’t really missing out, but I think it’s crazy to launch the iPhone with out an itunes store.
just to correct your story, the 3G iPhone in Singapore comes with the iTunes Store application installed. or at least mine did.
And an even more interesting note: the prices and accompanying service plans you mention above give you fully UNLOCKED iPhone (for 72 hours it took to have my number transferred over to Singtel from my previous carrier, my iphone worked with my previous carrier’s sim card flawlessly)
