EMEA market for Smartphones grows 28%

The EMEA market for smartphone is up 28%, according to Canalys, that is. The monitoring and stats company has said that shipments have broken the 10mn barrier now, with Nokia (NYSE: NOK) accounting for about 80% of all smartphones sales.
RIM was also mentioned as a player here, and HTC are fast-approaching as being the vendor of choice for those looking for a WinMo device. Moto and Samsung are also playing in this area, but with much smaller shares. We cannot forget the impetus that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) has gained of late, however, they and other smaller manufacturers only made up for 8% of the market, at the time the stats were gathered.
For me, the lines between smartphones and feature-phones are blurring on a weekly basis, giving rise to devices now that pack the computing power of a mobile internet device, with the portability of a feature/style phone – the new Samsung Omnia being a case in point!
Will everyone be rocking a touchscreen smarphone one day? It’s a scary thought……..!
