Leaked Motorola i776 brings us back to good ol’ days… NOT!

Motorola i776

There are no doubts in my mind Motorola (NYSE: MOT)’s mobile phone business has seen better times. I’m all for the big return of the struggling American handset maker. However, I’m not sure they have what it takes. Today we’ve spotted a leaked-by-Target image of the upcoming MOTO i776 clamshell. As you can see from the image above, the device in question has an antenna.

Why oh why would Motorola want to go this route is beyond me. Apparently, the phone is heading to Sprint (NYSE: S)-owned Boost Mobile and we should hear from them in the near future. Now that I’m thinking, if I were Boost’s marketing guy, I WOULDN’T issue a press release. There’s nothing to get you excited about the i776. Sure, there’s a Bluetooth support and a built-in GPS, but that antenna is really ugly, so-old-school “feature.” Any thoughts?

Well … when you consider how ugly all the boost mobile phones are, it ain’t so bad. What’s worse … a folding phone with an antenna or a non-folding phone as long as your pocket?

  2. Anthony says:

If the antenna gives better reception, I say bring it on! Maybe I’m wrong, but by the looks of things that antenna is for GPS.

  3. davea0511 says:

True all the Nextel phones have GPS, but I think they also need the antenna for TDMA technology that allows the best PTT service in the industry.

Personally I don’t care how ugly my phone is. I remember how everyone used to laugh when I used my HTC Universal as a phone because it looked like a PDA. Now everyone wants an iPhone which looks almost exactly the same.

Fads come and go. Who knows maybe an antenna will just be retro enough to make me popular … as if I care about a crowd who judges me based on my phone shape.

I like this phone. Who fusses over antenna’s? Who cares really. It’s a better looking phone than most boost phones excluding the i875, i885 and the i335 which is also a pretty nice phone. I work with dirty hands so by it being black, and rubber is a plus, being a flat phone was really an advantage for me as well. But the i776 is a beautiful phone no complaints on my part.

  9. Lark says:

Are you stupid man? i have this phone and it has so many awesome features. who cares about an antenna. and plus the antenna actually gets awesome service.

  10. 68ramair says:

I use my phone to make and receive calls. Does it really need to look like anything in particular? I don’t care if i am talking into a rock. Not a pink rock though. I wouldn’t be caught dead talking into a pink rock.
