Good news for the existing BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) users on AT&T (NYSE: T). The mobile operator along with RIM will release the BlackBerry OS 4.5 update for select BlackBerry smartphones — including the BlackBerry 8120, BlackBerry 8820, BlackBerry 8310 and BlackBerry 8300. From what we’ve heard the update, scheduled for mid-September, will include an array of improvements such as better browser with zoom and cursor, enhanced email client, Documents To Go, server email search, media player improvements, automatic login for WiFi-enabled BlackBerrys at AT&T hotspots, and more. We’ve no doubts we’ll have the full list of changes included in the new version of the BlackBerry OS once till mid-September. In the meantime, we’re also expecting to hear from other carriers going out with similar announcements…

Latest news from AT&T is now end-October release of 4.5.

  3. BOB says:

    October of what year?

  4. Brian says:

Well unless ATT releases the 4.5 update within the next 6 hours I would have to say they missed that end of October mark as well along with all the other projected dates. Perhaps it is just time to download the unofficial release and go with that. I have been so jealouse that my co-worker has 4.3 and that has been killing me. Even with just that update so many things were better with the browser. I think if it isn’t there by tomorrow night I will do it. Cross your fingers that I don’t brick my phone (not that I have heard that is a high risk).
