LG may be far behind Nokia (NYSE: NOK) in terms of total handset sales, but when it comes to CDMA-based devices, the Korean electronics manufacturer rules. As a matter of fact, LG led the global CDMA handset market for the sixth straight quarter in the Q2 2008, with shipments totaling 12.7 million units and accounting for a record-breaking 27.5% share in the segment.
Of that number, 7.6 million units or about 60% of all handsets were sold in the US market, only.
During the first quarter of this year, LG secured 25.9% of the global CDMA market – a substantial increase from 18.1% of the same quarter of a year earlier.
The second ranked CDMA handset vendor, Samsung, shipped 8.2 million handsets for a 17.7% market share in Q2 2008, and Motorola (NYSE: MOT) followed with shipments totaling 5.1 million units for an 11% share.
