walkinghotspot New software turns your mobile into Wi Fi hotspot

WalkingHotSpot went live the other day, offering to turn your Symbian S60 or Windows Mobile 6 device into a Wi-Fi hotspot for $24.99/year. Plenty of mobiles have the capability to tether internet access via Bluetooth, but by going Wi-Fi, you open up that capability to coworkers and buddies who need to get online. Of course, you’ll want to make sure you have an unlimited data plan with this, and even then carriers can be pretty stringent about their fair use policy. On top of that, simultaneously working Wi-Fi and 3G on a phone will tap the battery pretty quickly, but for short periods it should do the trick fine. This is a pretty sweet way to to share the connectivity love, and the 6-day trial should give everyone a chance to see how it works. Now it’s just a matter of seeing the software on other platforms…

Great idea. Comes in super handy when there are no public wi-fi hotspots in the area.
