T-Mobile App Store Details Emerge

By James Falconer on Friday, September 12th, 2008 at 9:09 AM PST In T-Mobile

T-Mobile App StoreT-Mobile recently let it be known that they will soon be offering up its own mobile app store in-line with the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) App Store. Not much was known about it, as T-Mo was certainly keeping it hush-hush.

Now more info is coming out, thanks to a report over at BGR. Apparently T-Mo’s Director of  Product Development for Mobile Apps and Partner Programs (Venetia Espinoza), and their Product Marketing Manager of the devPartner program (Sue Schmitz) were interviewed at CTIA. Here are some of the points that came out of that interview:

  • The initial store will offer free and paid apps, but nothing containing advertising.
  • No Android or Sidekick apps will be allowed.
  • Developer agreement to be live on T-Mobile (NYSE: DT)’s site next week.
  • Revenue split starts at 50/50 with changing factors that can give the developer up to 70/30.
  • T-Mobile will provide demo handsets and a virtual lab to help out developers.
  • Free apps will be allowed at no cost to developers, however bandwidth will be capped.
  • No API available on day one, but it is a consideration for the future.

Looks like they plan to open up with some very basic stuff. I find this very interesting and intriguing. I wonder if down the road they will open up the store for Android and Sidekick titles… Who knows. So many questions to be answered!

I’m wondering when a ‘cross platform mobile’ application market will be launched?

Obviously there are more windows mobile applications than any other mobile platform out there just seems strange nothing competing with the iPhone app store has been launched.

Seems like an obvious choice with
    http://windows.MobileAppStore.net
    or
    http://android.MobileAppStore.net
    or
    http://iphone.MobileAppStore.net

    Cheers,
