mccain blackberry Aide Rebukes Mccains Claim to Creating BlackBerry

An over-enthusiastic adviser to presidential hopeful John McCain was heard bragging how McCain, the guy who doesn’t know how to send an e-mail or use a computer, helped create the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM). Douglas Holtz-Eakin was later called a “bone-headed staffer” by a top aide for insinuating that McCain’s work with the Senate Commerce Committee directly facilitated advances in the U.S telecommunications sector to that extent. This mirrors some statements back during Gore’s electoral campaign, who made similar indirect claims the creation of the internet.

As funny as it might be to imagine McCain right next to Mike Lazaridis 15 years ago working on early prototypes in the lab, this is really just a matter of the wrong people talking too loud. Obviously politics has their role to play in how technology gets disseminated, but let’s not make a mountain out of a mole-hill, here.
