 Xperia brand might not stick with Windows Mobile

Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s Xperia continues to draw lusty looks of many a gadget geek, but that doesn’t mean the creators aren’t willing to screw around with a winning formula.

“The brand is not tied into any specific technical platform,” said Magnus Andersson, product manager for the X1.

Given the problems the Xperia has been having with Windows Mobile 6.1, it’s not surprising to hear a comment like this, but it also shouldn’t be taken as gospel that Sony Ericsson will be necessarily be making the switch for the X2 or whatever else they’ll be making in the same brand. After all, it’s a pretty slick interface they’ve developed, and it would be a shame to have to make it all over from scratch, let alone find an OS that could pull it off with the same panache. The WinMo version of the X1 should be available September 30th. in just about everywhere but North America.

    I understand that Microsoft cares about this story, but why should the average joe? With Symbian OS, OS X, Linux, Android, etc. available for the mobile platform, does it mean anything that other phones in the line are not using the MS OS?

    Xperia = Old technology

    I laugh at the stupid people who pre-ordered an Xperia back when it was announced, who knew that it would end up being out dated by the time it hit the market.
