According to CCID Consulting, CDMA handset sales in China are expected to reach 60 million in 2010 and further expand to 80 million units in 2012.
At the same time, the number of CDMA subscribers is likely to top 167 million in 2012, representing a four-fold increase from the numbers at present.
Companies that will benefit from the expanding CDMA market include VIA Telecom, Dopod International, Inventec Appliances, Compal Communications and Foxconn International Holdings (FIH). Dopod and Inventec recently secured orders for CDMA handsets from China Telecom, while Compal and FIH are also producing handsets for Motorola (NYSE: MOT) and Nokia (NYSE: NOK), respectively.
Last year, CDMA handset sales reached 10 million units.
