BBC iPlayer for S60 released

BBC has released its iPlayer for S60 platform. It’s a UK only app at the moment, and it works as a web runtime widget that uses RealPlayer to stream the video via 3G or WiFi connection.
Once you start iPlayer, you’ll see a number of shows being featured on the front page for quick selection. Alternatively, you can browse for shows via channel or category; or search by name.
In order to use BBC iPlayer, you’ll need to have a web runtime enabled handset. AllAboutSymbian reports it will sing along the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N78, N95, N96 and E90 — though some users have found a way to run in on the E71, as well.
Here’s the link from where you can download the app and try it for yourself. We’re eager to hear your thought on BBC’s mobile app. Like it or not?

Hurrah finally! Now the last piece of the puzzle – where the hell do I find an N85 even though it shipped bloody ages ago!?
I was able to download and open the applicatio but it doesn’t work on my e90
I upgraded to version 1.5 today on my N95 8GB.
(via Mippin Mobile)
Downloads have funny DRM and won’t play.
After downloading the 3gp file the phone trys to get a activation key. Which is followed by a message an error
I’ve downloaded it for my n95 8gb, the search function works well and the program looks great. The problem is when I’m in a 3g network it asks for a wifi connection before it will play anything, kind of annoying as whats the point of it having a 3G function if you can’t utilise it in this way.
This simply does not stack up as an argument, justification, reason or anything else. I have a N95 8GB on three with version 21 firmware. I am running iplayer 1.5 perfectly well – all fine except the saving and playing of downloaded programmes. Streaming play back works perfectly over wifi and 3g. I am able to download shows over wifi but not save and hence play them back due to the drm restrictions. This, to me, makes no sense. I am able to record bbc programming from the tv and keep and watch it back indefinitely. I have paid for it. Let me download shows to my n95! The point about data usage is mixed up – if i wanted to i could use my ‘unlimited’ 3g data allowance up by streaming iplayer to my phone. I’ve made no hacks at all. Simply add a warning/disclaimer as other applictions do saying that users may incur high charges if they stream over 3g. It really isn’t that hard! Incidently, there is a application you can use of symbian devices to automatically select the most appropriate access point (3g or wifi’s) which i use with real player. This makes it much easier when switching from a wifi environment to a 3g environment and means you don’t have to manually change the access point it real player each time. Easy.
hi. I downloaded and run the iplayer software on my e90, i can search and browse by channels however no programs are being displayed and when i do a search for any random program to watch ie ‘top gear’ the search comes up blank? I so far haven’t been able to watch anything. My wifi is fine because i regulaly use youtube which works fine. Any ideas?
