Nokia E71 shunted from Fido to Rogers

Those Canadians who were hoping Fido’s modest lineup might get a little sprucing up with the Nokia E71 may be horribly and irreparably disappointed. Word has it Rogers (NYSE: RCI) will be taking the reins of Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s enterprise flagship device, much to the dismay of loyal Fido-users. It makes good business sense for a big name to to grab a hot device from a wholly-owned subsidiary and pass them the low end and slow sellers to push at a discount, but it’s still a little sad to see such an old player in the Canadian wireless game to get screwed over like that. C’mon Rogers – throw Fido a bone.

Fortunately Canadians have LOTS of options for unlocked, contract-free E71s. I’m just cheesed that I have to choose between Euro/Asia and NAM 3G
@AC: true, but if we use either Fido or Rogers’ mobile internet on the unlocked cellphones we get charged more than if we get it through them. Other than that, I do enjoy using unlocked cellphones.
Don’t say that! I signed up for the $30/6GB data plan for my unlocked E61i and haven’t received my first bill yet =:-o
